Initiated by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in 2021, this is Raffles Design Institute’s third collaboration with URA and One Kampong Gelam (OKG) to use fabrics and haberdashery from textile merchants along Arab Street.
Five groups of Raffles Fashion and Jewellery Designers participated in this design challenge to create fashion collections and accessories that recapture the textile culture, heritage, and memories of the street.
Raffles Design Institute would like to thank OKG and URA for their support in creating this series of Arab Street-inspired fashion collections.
Raffles Design Institute would also like to thank President Halimah Yacob and Mr Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee, together with Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of National Development Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, and Mayor of Central Singapore Denise PHUA Lay Peng, for gracing the display put up by Raffles Fashion and Jewellery Designers at Sultan Gate during Ramadan.
Representing the participating designers, Raffles Fashion Designers Eva HUANG and Sarah NAPITUPULU shared in detail the design process with President Halimah and the delegates during their visit.
