CLOSING THE FASHION LOOP AT RAFFLES COLLEGE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

CLOSING THE FASHION LOOP AT RAFFLES COLLEGE OF HIGHER EDUCATION
Raffles College of Higher Education is excited to share that the response to the textile recycling movement on Orchard Road has been overwhelming!

We are proud to announce that more Raffles Designers and Marketers have joined our cause! Together, we are making a significant impact in promoting sustainability and creating a positive change.

To close the textile recycling loop, a group of Raffles Fashion Designers, along with Creative Practitioner, Madeleine WONG, embarked on a fascinating journey to Port Klang where the collected textile waste is sorted and processed.

During their visit, the students gained a deeper understanding of the intricate process involved in transforming recycled materials into fashion pieces. The tour to the factory allowed them to witness first-hand how the materials were sorted, processed, and prepared for upcycling, refurbishment, or repair.

Raffles Design students also discovered the diverse applications of recycled materials. Some materials were repurposed as wiper cloths, while others were transformed into sports surfaces and running tracks. This demonstrates how recycled materials can be utilized to create sustainable and practical solutions.

On 30 July 2023, Raffles Fashion and Jewellery Designers had an early start at Nee Soon Green Carnival 2023 to showcase their creativity in transforming the textile waste, collected from CLOOP’s Textile Recycle Bins and selected from their trip to Port Klang, into fashionable green collection.

The College is honoured to present this sustainable collection to the Members of Parliament of the Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency led by Minister of Law, K. Shanmugam and his constituency members Derrick Goh, Carrie Tan, Louis Ng, and Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim.
